Q. What can you do that my office staff cannot?
A. To be successful in today’s dynamic medical environment, it is critical that physician groups possess expertise in every aspect of their practice. To meet these demands, MMS offers an experienced management team and operational resources to effectively oversee all the daily operations of your practice. Rather than having one or two people that know a little about a lot, MMS provides a comprehensive team that has expertise in each area of your practice’s operations. This team includes CPAs, coding and billing specialists, marketing professionals, strategic consultants, human resources and benefits experts, contract negotiators and operations professionals. This expertise cannot be offered by consultants with a general healthcare knowledge.
Q. Will I have to give up control of my practice if I utilize the services of MMS?
A. The control over your practice will dramatically increase with MMS. You retain control in your practice. At all times we will act as your agent. MMS provides strategic development and tactical implementation services that optimize the value of your practice. We will advise and make recommendations on each strategic option, but you always make the final decision as to the direction of your practice.
Q. What are the key goals of MMS for my practice?
A. Simply put, it is to increase the worth of your practice as a valuable corporate asset.
We achieve this by:
- Maximizing your short and long-term financial position
- Enhancing your lifestyle through freeing you of many of the burdens of managing the business aspects of your practice
- Identifying and mitigating the internal and external practice risks that potentially threaten your practice’s success and viability.
However, there are some significant benefits to you. No longer are you involved in pay disputes, requests for time off or disciplinary actions. Additionally, you will have greater flexibility in your own person retirement savings plans and contributions.
Q. How much clinical involvement will MMS have in my practice?
A. Almost none. Basically, we administer the business functions on your behalf and you run the clinical functions. Strategically, it is our role to propose new clinical services or opportunities. However, you always make the final decision as to whether they should be implemented. On a daily basis, you direct your clinical team just as you do now.
Q. How much will I know about my finances if MMS is involved?
A. Probably more than you do now. Most providers don’t know about problems until they show up (as a decrease) in their paychecks. Our role is to help identify and solve these problems before they cause significant financial pain. Comprehensive reporting is available on all aspects of the practice and can be provided on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. We also meet with our clients regularly to present the partners with all key financial information.
Q. What type of integration time and planning is needed for MMS to begin providing services?
A. Typically we begin working with you immediately. However, there could be a 30-60 day transitional period. MMS can compact the transition schedule to meet the specific needs of your practice. A schedule will be provided that outlines transitional steps.
Q. How can I judge the financial impact of utilizing MMS?
A. MMS charges a percentage of collections for its services. Most of this fee will be a transferal of your current expenditures; including costs associated with your current accounts receivable management efforts (software, hardware, staffing, postage, supplies, etc.). Additionally, you will likely realize savings in other expenses such as consulting, legal and accounting fees.
However, it is the strategic, operational, contracting, marketing, billing/coding/collection expertise our team brings to your practice that truly makes our relationship financially rewarding for you. This expertise translates into revenue growth through more appropriate coding, better-negotiated contracts, ensuring contractors are paying the full amount agreed to, stronger and more consistent collection efforts, identification and implementation of new service lines, increasing efficiencies, cutting costs, etc.
